Beginning Wednesday, August 27th, First Utility District of Knox County’s contractor Insituform will begin rehabbing the main sanitary sewer lines in your neighborhood. This work will be taking place over the next several months. The main sewer lines in your neighborhood were installed in the 1970’s and are past due to be replaced or rehabbed. First Utility has chosen to rehab the main lines using the Cured in Place Pipe (CIPP) method instead of a traditional dig and replace method. Cured in Place Pipe is a trenchless method for repairing the lines which minimizes how much excavation is normally needed in a project of this magnitude. The red/pink lines on the attached map are the lines to be rehabbed in this year’s project.

Please make sure to run water in all floor drains or rarely used sinks, tubs, or toilets to ensure that a water barrier is in the trap. This will help prevent unwanted odors from entering your home. Our contractor will also be notifying you of when they are rehabbing the main line that your sewer service line flows into. During this time, your sewer service will be temporarily blocked off, so we ask that you minimize water usage during this time frame to prevent sewer from backing up into your home. If you have any questions for the contractor, don’t hesitate to contact them at the job site.

Also, feel free to contact me, Pat Spangler, at 865-966-9741, if you have any questions regarding the rehab project.
