First Utility District of Knox County (FUD) will soon begin a planned water main replacement project along George Williams Road. This work is part of our commitment to provide safe, reliable service to the community —both now and for the future. The existing water line is approximately 50 years old and has reached the end of its service life. Replacing it will reduce the risk of breaks, improve system reliability, and support continued growth in the area. A recent phase of this project was completed within Tan Rara Subdivision in 2025.
The next phase includes replacing approximately 4,800 feet of water main along George Williams Road, between the Pellissippi underpass and Zola Lane. Construction is expected to begin in April 2026. Early activities will include utility locating, erosion control installation, clearing, and survey staking. We understand that construction can be inconvenient, and we will make every effort to minimize disruptions. To help reduce impacts to school traffic, a significant portion of the work will take place during Summer 2026, coordinated with Knox County Schools summer break. During this time, you will see temporary road closures, traffic shifts, and posted detours.
Throughout the project, FUD will:
* Maintain access to homes
* Coordinate with emergency services
* Provide advance notice of any planned service interruptions
* Keep you informed with regular updates
We appreciate your patience as we complete these necessary improvements. If you have questions or concerns, please contact FUD or visit our website, https://www.fudknox.org/projects-maintenance/.
